Axell's Review

The First Fifteen Lives of Harry August is a fantasy novel set over and over again between 1919 and the 2000s, and an intriguing take on the Groundhog Day concept.

Following Harry August, born in the women's washroom of Berwick-upon-Tweed station in 1919, we explore the movements of a human mind faced with pseudo-immortality. Here we discover a mind with the inability to forget a single second of its many, many lives.

Forcing the reader to consider the consequences of any and every action, including inaction, we witness imagined futures, and pasts, as individuals rewrite both for their own purposes. Learning he is not alone in this state, Harry endeavors to make the most of his lives, while attempting to find the cause of his continued existence.

A thought provoking novel on friendship and betrayal, love, loss, greed and apathy, this book is what launched me back in to binge reading, as a reminder of the potential between any two covers.
