We have met them before as The Glorious Guinness Girls, but now the three privileged darlings of society in Dublin and London are all grown up – only to find that their gilded upbringing could not have prepared them for the realities of marriage. Shattered expectations, intense rows and infidelity all rock the boat but somehow it is all made humorous, perhaps by the presence of the Mitford girls who are friends and who, as the war approaches, find themselves under the media glare which causes the Guinness girls to examine their own lives!
Sounds as though it could be dull and boring, but it is not, and I found myself chuckling most of the way through the book.
