Our Story...

Located in the leafy Perth suburb of Claremont, The Lane Bookshop is a truly independent seller of books. Since opening in 1980 we have been sharing our love of all things literary with customers young and old.

The Lane carries a wide range of books by local, national and international authors. Whether it’s fiction, non fiction, adult or children’s books, if we don’t have the title you are searching for we will gladly try and order it in.

Our staff all read voraciously and love nothing better than chatting about books with customers. We happily recommend books for schools, libraries,  book clubs or people just chasing a great read for themselves. Many book clubs meet in The Lane Cafe opposite the bookshop and we always enjoy being invited over to present titles worth considering for discussion. We hope to see you in the shop soon!

Abandoning their sensible lives to pursue a passion for books, Stephen and Trudy Cole originally opened The Lane Bookshop in 1980.
After many years of trying, regular customer Anne Day finally persuaded Stephen and Trudy to sell The Lane Bookshop and in 1994 she and husband Christopher bought the shop which they continue to run today along with their son Nick Day.
Book selling has changed over the years, but The Lane Bookshop remains a haven for book lovers. We love books and are passionate about sharing that love with our customers.
