In The Future she is speculating on the vast excessive wealth and power of the big tech companies, projecting into a dystopian self serving billionaire elite controlled world. Alderman believes in the human capacity to act in the greater good and casts her reluctant heroine Martha from frying pan to fire in a thrill a minute ride to salvage a human victory from the jaws of a greedy self-interested defeat.
