Review by Anne Day

Runt is a delightful book about a young girl Annie Shearer and her best friend an adopted stray dog called Runt.  The book is said to be suitable for 8 to 12 year olds,; however, most adults will read and enjoy this book enormously.

Annie likes to fix things. Especially when it comes to difficulties her family might be having on the financial front which could lead to them having to sell their farm to pay their debts.

There is an unscrupulous villain in the plot, Fergus Fink, who is also a dog handler and who competes with Annie and her dog on every competitive front including a participation in the grand prize in the Crumpets Dog Show in London.  He is vile and cruel and a danger to everyone around him.

Runt is a heart-warming and hilarious tale of kindness, cruelty, and friendship.  To say more would be to give away too much of the plot. But do read the book when it comes out in October.
